Dear Bernheim Community,

Thank you for not just a wonderful year, but a wonderful decade.  It has been a beautiful thing to be a part of this amazing community.  Your students are an inspiration to us all and I am confident that they will continue to grow in knowledge, character and strength.  Thank you for entrusting me to be a small part of their journey. I will miss Bernhiem Middle School and will continue to pray the Lords’ blessings for this community for all my days.

To our Grizzlies House, YOU ARE AWESOME! You have grown up so much in the last three years and we can’t wait to see the wonderful things you are going to do! Thank you for BELIEVING THERE IS GOOD IN THE WORLD and for BEING THE GOOD! Thank you to all the people in their lives who have supported them and helped them grow! Parents, grandparents, families and friends you all have inspired them, believed in them, and pushed them to be the best they can be! We will miss them, but we are so proud of their accomplishments.

Make sure your student is at school Wednesday to practice for promotion! They need to be at school to participate in the evening event! We will see you at the BMS Promotion Ceremony Wednesday night at BCHS at 6:00pm.

COUNSELOR’S

As we wrap up another school year, I want to take a moment to thank you for the incredible support you’ve shown our students. It’s been a year of growth, challenges, and many successes—and I’m proud of how far our middle schoolers have come!

As we head into summer, it’s important to keep mental wellness a priority. Here are a few simple ways to help your child stay mentally healthy over the break:

  • Keep a routine – While summer is a great time to relax, a simple daily schedule can help provide structure and reduce stress.

  • Stay connected – Encourage your child to spend time with friends and family, in person or virtually.

  • Get outside – Fresh air, sunshine, and physical activity can work wonders for mood and energy.

  • Limit screen time – Try to balance online activities with offline hobbies, reading, or creative projects.

  • Encourage open conversations – Make space for your child to talk about their feelings and experiences. Listening goes a long way!

Wishing you all a safe, joyful, and restful summer. We look forward to seeing everyone back, refreshed and ready for another great year!

If you have any questions or need counseling support, please feel free to email amy.bush@bullitt.kyschools.us.

May 19 BMS Newsbytes: News, Celebrations, and More!

Dear Bernheim Community,

Thanks for another great week here in Bruin Nation! We are incredibly proud of the focus and determination our students showed during the Kentucky State Assessment (KSA). Most students have completed testing, but we’ll continue with makeups this week for those who were absent. Please remember—students must complete all testing to participate in our end-of-year activities, so make every effort to be here and on time!

We’ve got exciting news: thanks to your generosity, we’ve officially exceeded our fundraising goal for the Special Olympics! Our students raised nearly $750, and that means the UK vs. UofL Students vs. Staffulty Volleyball Game is ON—mark your calendars for Thursday, May 22nd!

And don’t forget—Friday, May 23rd is our Spring 2025 Renaissance Rally: Where Legends Ride! Come dressed in your best country and western gear—think cowboy hats and boots! Kona Ice will be on sale to keep things cool as we celebrate an amazing school year!

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

Students are currently finalizing their Individual Learning Plan (ILP) using a platform called SchooLinks. Throughout the year in Advisory, they’ve completed a variety of activities and assessments that explore their interests, learning styles, and potential post-secondary goals—whether that be the workforce, college, or trade school.

In middle school, students are still discovering who they are and what they’re passionate about, so it’s normal for these plans to change from year to year as their interests develop. That’s why students will revisit and update their ILP annually. In high school, they’ll begin to refine their plans with more focus and intention as they prepare for life after graduation.

Once your student publishes their ILP, you’ll receive a copy via email to review and sign. Your support helps us guide students in making meaningful and informed decisions about their futures.

Thank you for partnering with us in this important process!

If you have any questions or need counseling support, please feel free to email amy.bush@bullitt.kyschools.us.

THANK YOU from Ms. Stephens

Dear Bernheim Middle School Community,

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each of you. It has been my honor and joy to serve this incredible school for nearly a decade. I often tell our students they are the very best—and I mean it wholeheartedly. They, along with their supportive families, make this community truly special.

I will be retiring at the end of this school year and as I do so I want you to know how thankful I am for the privilege of being part of Bernheim Middle School. BCPS is always moving forward, and I’m confident that the next leader will be just as inspired by this community as I have always been.

With sincere appreciation,
Katie Stephens

🎯 Archery
After an exciting and impressive season, our archery team wrapped things up by competing at Nationals this past weekend! While the scores may not have been exactly what they hoped for, the season as a whole was a tremendous success — highlighted by multiple tournament wins and strong individual finishes throughout the year. Great work, Archers! We’re proud of your accomplishments and can’t wait to see what you’ll achieve next season.

⚽ Boys’ Soccer
Though the scoreboard didn’t always tell the full story, the boys’ soccer team showed remarkable growth and determination all season long. Their season came to a close Tuesday night, but the foundation they’ve built is strong — and the coaches are excited about what’s ahead. With a full season of experience now behind them, success is definitely on the horizon.

⚽ Girls’ Soccer
History was made this week as the girls’ soccer team won their first-ever tournament game, defeating Marion County in an exciting matchup! Their postseason journey continues Monday as they head to Bluegrass Middle School for the next round. We’re proud of their grit and determination — and we’ll be cheering them on every step of the way!

🥎 Softball
The softball team kicks off their postseason run Tuesday night when they face Zoneton in the opening round of the tournament. The game begins at 7:30 p.m. at Washington Sports Park. If they win, they’ll be back in action on Wednesday. Let’s pack the stands and support our girls as they aim to finish the season strong!

🏃‍♂️ Track & Field
Our track and field athletes delivered standout performances at the county championships this past weekend!

  • Brayden Murphy – 1st place in the mile
  • Teandrea Newson-Milam – 1st in the 100m, 3rd in the 200m
  • Jadyn Hartlage – 2nd in the 400m, 3rd in the 800m
  • Rosalyn Marcum – 1st in the 400M

What an incredible showing! Congratulations to all our athletes — we’re excited to see your continued success next season.
