Happy Labor Day! It's going to be a great week!

Dear BMS Community,

The school year is off to a great start.  Ms. Johnson and Ms. Cravens are having students use Chromebooks for math assessments and getting useful feedback from the students on how they prefer to use the technology.  Teachers are creating opportunity for choice for students and are differentiating instruction to meet kids where there are and help them continue to grow.

Ms. Breeze is creating schema for students as they read a class novel.  She is having them devise their own definitions of words from the text providing opportunities for academic discourse.  Ms. Elliot may soon be our most multicultural individual in the building as she helps students learn French, German, Spanish and other world languages.  After visiting her class it is clear that students are excited to learn foreign language  and many students blossom as a result of having Ms. Elliot's classes.

Ms. Noland's new 7th grade classes are building community and using the Breakout Boxes to learn expectations.  Ms. Korby's math classes are working through some tough math problems together and helping each other stay focused and on task.

All around the building there is wonderful teaching and learning going on!  We are so excited about the opportunity to grow together with your student! The technology piece is new to the teachers as well but we have seen the students and teachers  jump right in to a seamless transition.

Chromebooks - How to protect them:
Please consider a protective cover for your student's chromebook.  They are available at Walmart, Amazon and several other places.  We will be selling skins for them soon if you would like one of those.  The skins help students identify their own computer but don't offer a great deal of protection. Several screens have broken and it is a minimum of $40 to repair a broken screen (per district regulations).  Remind students to protect their screens by avoiding touching them, not closing objects in the Chromebooks and when they put them down setting them down gently.  Just like when you got your first smart phone, we are figuring the Chromebooks out - and students really need to be careful with them.

Morning Car Riders:
The car rider line(s) in the morning have been very busy due to a larger number of car riders this year.  Thank you for your flexibility and cooperation in working with us to ensure that your child is able to access the building safely.  In order to continue the safest practice possible, we have returned to the single file line for car rider drop off in the mornings.  This ensures that no student will have to cross in front of another car.  We will continue to have you drive to the second sidewalk (where car riders are picked up in the afternoon) so that buses are able to enter the front parking lot.

Please remember that students should not exit their car until 7:40 a.m. as the school is not open until that time.  We appreciate your help in this matter as our number one goal is student safety.

Wednesday- School Picture Proofs  & Order Forms will be passed out to Students- Please Return them ASAP.
Please sign those forms and have your student bring them back.-- we encourage you to get your student's school picture- They grow up so fast and these are great memories for them and you.  My youngest is a junior in college now and I sure miss the days when she came home with the form for school pictures we decided which one to get and as soon as they were in we sent the off to the grandparents aunts and uncles.  It is a great way to watch them grow.  Even if you don't wish to order pictures please send the signed form back stating you have seen the form.
