This weeks News and Celebrations, & Upcoming Events! 4/30-5/3

Dear BMS Community,

It is very hard to believe we are almost in MAY! Though the second semester has been a
little inconsistent, (and Friday will be Oaks Day-No School) our teachers and students are totally game on!  As I visit classrooms students are working very hard on their MAP assessments and those classrooms who aren't testing are working on meaningful learning experiences. Sixth graders are reading the book A Long Walk To Water, and making all sorts of connections to the world in which they live.  They are learning about resilience and how to make a difference for their community.  Our eighth graders are reflecting on how the civil war will be remembered in future generations and are asking extraordinary questions.  Our seventh graders are studying the science of genetics and learning about how scientists work.  They too are asking extraordinary questions and wondering about what the limitations of science might be as we move into the future.  There are so many high level questions being asked by our young people I am confident the future is in good hands! We have great kids here at BMS and I am so proud of them.

We are so excited about next year for the upcoming 5th graders to join Bruin Nation. We finally had the opportunity for LJ and CG 5th grade students to come to BMS, see what "the house" looks like and get to participate in Dollars and Sense. We want to thank Ms. Tiffany Jenkins and Ms. Tammy Perdew as well as all the teachers and staff who organized the event! It was fantastic and the 5th grade students did an outstanding job! Bruin Nation is growing and we are excited for them to join us!

BMS Student Leadership Workshop

Fifty-three students from all three grade levels participated in the BMS Student Leadership Workshop.  They did a fantastic job and worked hard all day.  With their input we will continue to move toward creating the absolute best learning environment for students that we possibly can. We believe creativity and innovation starts at the heart of where it matters most, out students. We are grateful for their hard work and extraordinary efforts when it comes to "Being the Change".   Students walked away with some great insights one of which is that each individual has the power to make a difference on the world around them.

There are so many more great things coming up for students! Please encourage them, be here, to stay focused and to do their best.

Please keep reading for more information!

CHROMEBOOK COLLECTION /May 14-May 18
Chromebook collection will begin May 14 and be completed for most students by May 18.  The program is a yearly lease and students will be reissued the Chromebooks at the start of next year when they complete their lease agreement for next school year.  We hope to make this process a smooth and easy process for students.  If you still have Chromebook repair fees out, please contact Ms. Ojala (toni.ojala@bullitt.kyschools.us) for details, information and questions.

Thank you for making our first year of one-to-one technology a great year.  We learned quite a bit about how to make things run as smooth as possible for students.

We look forward to another great year next year.
