November 18-November 22: Student Celebrations, Updates and Information.

Dear Bernheim Community,

It was certainly a full week for BMS.  We had our Veterans Day ceremony on Monday and it was fantastic. Students led the program and presented in front of the entire student body.Students were extremely respectful and attentive;when we asked who here has family who is or has been in the military almost the whole gym raised their hand.  Thank you to all who have served.

We are teaching students not only core subjects but every day we work on strength of character.  The Bruin Way -Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Be Here and Be Bold in KINDNESS, COURAGE AND EXCELLENT WORK ETHIC. Students have two advisory periods each week.  Students are working through the Second Step program which focuses on goal setting and the social emotional skills needed to be successful in life. They are also working through character education, including life-ready skills for college and career success.  Each student's advisory teacher serves as their mentor and students know that teacher is their "go to" for any support they might need.   Your kids are important, they are valuable, we know how much you love them and we do too.  We hope that through this program as they grow in their academic skills they will also gain the life-skills needed to be successful throughout the navigation of their journey through life.
We are excited to announce that Ms. Karla Elliott is the BMS 19-20 Teacher of the year! She has provided so many opportunities for students through her classes and her work as our Library Media Specialist.  Outside of the Spanish, coding, Bluegrass Award winners, Chromebook help, she has also been the spark that started the BMS Birthday Bear.  She has been the dance moves in the Reading celebrations we have for students and the soul behind Derby week celebrations.  She is constantly looking for ways to put a pep in the step of others.  Thank you Ms. Elliott for all you do!

Students attending will remain in seventh period until we dismiss for dance.

As always we are always happy to help in any way we can. There are so many ways to keep up with what is going on at BMS.  BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, please favorite this website. BMS Class Highlights is each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class.  The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information along with links to individual teacher websites which are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook, Twitter and Remind. We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.
Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your student.
