August 30-September 3: School Pictures Coming Up! News, Updates and Celebrations!

Dear Bernheim Community,

SCHOOL PICTURES ARE TUESDAY AUGUST 31!

Thank you for a great week. Students have all had a chance to go to the library now and check out a book.  We are encouraging reading as much as possible.  We will begin our reading competition through advisory classes very soon.

We love to celebrate the great things students do! We have celebrations throughout the year as part of our Renaissance PBIS Program.  This program is designed to inspire, motivate, and renew a climate and culture of character, connection, and celebration of achievement.  We have several celebrations throughout the year and students will be involved at different levels based on their achievements.  All students will get to participate throughout the year in one form or another.  The goal is that all students are inspired to achieve more, work hard, be kind, persevere and grow.

If students have missing work, or haven’t followed the Bruin Way that will impact their ability to participate in some of the big celebrations. Please stay on top of infinite campus and remind your student to finish all assignments! BMS teachers do an extraordinary job of supporting students and creating multiple avenues for success. If your student needs help or extra support please reach out.

Every student received a lanyard this week.  Please keep up with those lanyards, those are also their Hall Passes and hold the Starter Card they earned this week.  There are a few extra privileges on the Starter card for each student.  As they work hard, achieve and grow they can earn a gold, silver or bronze card throughout the year, each coming with different privileges.  Encourage your students and remind them to always work hard and be kind.  Thank you for supporting your students and helping us keep them on track so that they can go for Gold!

Please keep reading for updates, information and celebrations.

BMS CLASS HIGHLIGHTS

Please follow the link to the BMS Class Highlights. (linked)  You will find teachers' websites linked along with a brief update of what is going on in class.  Please visit their websites and lesson plan links to see all that is happening.  Teachers have linked materials, resources and items they use in class.  The number one way to stay on top of your student's progress is through infinite campus/parent portal. (log on page linked) We are here to support your student and family in any way we can, please feel free to reach out.

Covid

Thank you to all of the parents and students who have been supportive and understanding.  We simply hate it when we have to call and say your student has been exposed.  For any student who is quarantined, assignments are being dropped in google classrooms and students can access all resources.  Students have been asking questions via Go Guardian and/or email and teachers have been great about getting back to students. Encourage your student to stay caught up so that upon their return they don’t feel behind.

We have made an adjustment to lunch that will lead to even fewer quarantined students; we are using the gym for lunch again. We started on Thursday and so far so good! We want your students at school and healthy!

We need to give a huge shout out to our district nurses who have been completely swamped.  Thank you for helping to make their job easier by answering your phone and filling out the forms they request. Please see the district website regarding all things Covid related.

Transportation

BCPS transportation will be keeping parents updated on the bus issues via their  Facebook page and through BCPS infinite campus messenger. As you know there has been a shortage of bus drivers for the last two weeks. Thank you to those folks running double and triple runs. We know it has been a challenge for all!

If you are interested in becoming a bus driver or a sub bus driver for the district please go to the district website and complete the application!

For those of you transporting your own students please follow Car Rider line procedures to help us keep your students safe. Morning car rider line is single line, afternoon car rider line is double lane and both times of day require parents to follow the directions of the person directing the lines.  Thank you for all of your help, support and the many smiles as you all drop off kids and pick them up!

BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, favorite this blog and the school website. BMS Class Highlights includes each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class.  The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information along with links to individual teacher websites (also linked above) which are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook and Remind. We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.

Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your student.
