January 4th - January 6th| BMS Newsbytes: News, Updates and Celebrations

 Dear Bernheim Community,

Welcome back! We will see students January 4th 2023.  2023 has so many possibilities  for each of our students!  This year we have watched students grow and become such wonderful community contributors.  BMS has participated in community service projects and has helped make the world a better place.  In the fall BMS Cubs organized a water project in which the whole school participated.  BMS was able to raise enough funds so that the Louisville Water Company matched our donations and allowed for us to provide clean safe drinking water to an entire school community.

Please see the note from the Uganda Water Project folks to Mr. Carnes and Students.

……

Hello Jimmy and the amazing Wavemaker students at Bernheim Middle School,

I'm excited to share that the first rainwater collection system the 6th graders sponsored this fall has been completed and is transforming the lives of people in Uganda. Because of your support, 192 students and teachers now have access to clean, safe drinking water from the new rainwater collection system at their school.

Let that sink in! 192 students and teachers now have on-site access to clean, safe water access right at their school.

Bernheim Middle School did that!

We're so grateful that you chose to partner with the Ugandan Water Project to give water and give life to these schools for years to come. To see all the details on the rainwater system you sponsored, check out the linked impact report below, where you'll find photos, GPS coordinates, survey data, and more.

You have helped transform so many lives through this project. Please feel free to share the impact of this project and the generosity that fueled it with your friends and family! We're excited to be one day closer to celebrating the end of Uganda's water crisis because of you.

With gratitude,

Jess Alinaitw

We couldn’t be prouder of the positive impact our students have had on the world they live in. We will update you when the second water collection system is in place.  Please feel free to share in your circles and thank you to all who helped support the project.

SEMESTER TWO

When students return they will begin semester TWO.  We know they will do fantastic and we will finish 2023 strong! It would be very helpful to send your students back to school with the following supplies.

  • 2 pks of pencils

  • 2 folders

  • 2 composition books

We are hoping that the flu season is behind us and that BMS students will be healthy and ready to go.  Please remind students to wash hands and avoid eating and drinking after each other.  The months of October and November found BMS especially hit hard with sickness.  Anything you can do to promote healthy habits would be much appreciated!

BMS  has a house system that is based on students' year of graduation.  Each house can earn points based on areas that are linked to the Bruin Way.  Points are earned by the percentage of the house on the honor roll, free from referrals, attendance, school spirit, showing responsibility for yourself and others,  participation in community service, random acts of kindness, and more!

We do our best to keep you informed! BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, favorite this blog and the school website. BMS Class Highlights includes each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class.  The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information you might need. Individual teacher websites are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.

Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your students.
