2/5/24-2/9/24 BMS Newsbytes: Student Celebrations, News, Updates and more!

Dear Bernheim Community,

It has been another fantastic week in Bruin Nation.  Students are doing outstanding work and thinking deeply about what they are learning! Students in the Cubs house are learning all about William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar! They are doing a great job making sense of very complicated material! We are so proud of them!   Students in the Grizzlies house are working through the Louisiana Purchase asking really tough questions! We are so proud of Bruin Nation!

********************

This week we had to say goodbye to Ms. Debbie.  She was such a kind soul.  Students have made condolence cards for the family.  If your student needs extra support please reach out to Ms. Bush.  Many of our students have never lost anyone before so they may be struggling with this sad part of life.

Archery -  The BMS archery team participated in both the River City Challenge 3D Series at St. Martha and the North Bullitt High School Bullseye tournaments this past weekend.  The team won both tournaments and set a new school record for 3D of 1700 out of a possible 1800.  Individual medals were awarded at NBHS for Boys 1st-5th and Girls 1st, 3rd and 4th.  For 3D Boys 1st-4th and Girls 1st-3rd.

The River City 3D Challenge is a series of 6 tournaments over the season where awards are presented at each tournament and there are cumulative awards at the end including a 5ft 1st place team trophy and gold belt buckle awards for overall individuals.  Currently BMS is leading the team category and individual Boys 1-5 and Girls 1-4.

The next two weekends the team will focus on 3D with tournaments at St Michael and Jeffersontown.

Baseball- The baseball season is right around the corner.  Tryouts will be February 15th.  The team is composed of 6th and 7th grade boys and all trying out must have a KHSAA physical on file to try out.  There is one more open workout on February 13 from 5-6:30.

Cheerleading- Our cheerleading squad continues to practice hard and will be competing again in competition this weekend.  We look forward to great results.

Softball - We have hired a coach!!  Former Bruin Makenzie Bible is coming back to coach the BMS softball team. The team will be composed of 6th and 7th grade girls to play against the other county teams.  They will play a 8-10 game season with all games held at the Mount Washington sports complex.  Those ladies that play for Bullitt Central must also play for their middle school team.  They are allowed to play for both, but BMS will be a priority just like other sports.  Tryouts and open workout dates will be coming soon.

Volleyball - Volleyball had a busy week with games and some wins!!  This week the ladies will host two home games.  Tuesday they will host Mt. Washington and Thursday they will host Eastside.  Both night's games start at 5:30.

Swim Team

Special shout out to Brinleigh Gary who will be competing in the high school regional swim meet this weekend.  The top 2 from Sunday's Finals advance to the state meet in 2 weeks.  She swims for the USA team and for BCHS we are so proud of her and the great things she is doing.  We wish her well and know she will do awesome!

 Keep Being Amazing Bruin Nation!!!

We do our best to keep you informed! BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, favorite this blog and the school website. BMS Class Highlights includes each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class.  The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information you might need. Individual teacher websites are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  We also have @henryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.
