May 5: BMS Newsbytes: News, Updates and Celebrations!

Dear Bernheim Community,

Thank you for another great week in Bruin Nation.

It’s been a great week here in Bruin Nation! Our teachers have been hard at work reviewing standards and helping students grow, and the building has been buzzing with excitement. From the 7th grade Probability Carnival to the Renaissance Faire, learning has come to life all around us!

As we look ahead, the end of the school year is quickly approaching—and KSA

Testing is right around the corner, taking place May 12–16. To prepare, starting

May 7, students will return to advisory at the end of each day to leave their

Chromebooks with their advisory teacher. All chargers should be brought to school by Wednesday. Keep working hard, stay focused, and let’s finish the year strong, Bruins!

SPECIAL OLYMPICS FUNDRAISER

CHALLENGE

Dr. Bacon has challenged all of BCPS to raise $13,000 for Special Olympics—and

Bernheim Middle School is stepping up to the challenge! Our school goal is to raise

$500 by May 20th. If we meet our goal, we will celebrate with a UK vs. UofL

Students vs. Staffulty Volleyball Showdown for all students to attend at the end

of the day on May 22nd!

Spirit Week - Mental Health Awareness Week!

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

Students are currently finalizing their Individual Learning Plan (ILP) using a platform called SchooLinks. Throughout the year in Advisory, they’ve completed a variety of activities and assessments that explore their interests, learning styles, and potential post-secondary goals—whether that be the workforce, college, or trade school.

In middle school, students are still discovering who they are and what they’re passionate about, so it’s normal for these plans to change from year to year as their interests develop. That’s why students will revisit and update their ILP annually. In high school, they’ll begin to refine their plans with more focus and intention as they prepare for life after graduation.

Once your student publishes their ILP, you’ll receive a copy via email to review and sign. Your support helps us guide students in making meaningful and informed decisions about their futures.

Thank you for partnering with us in this important process!

If you have any questions or need counseling support, please feel free to email amy.bush@bullitt.kyschools.us.

🎯 Archery
After an exciting and successful season, the archery team is now setting its sights on the NASP National Tournament next weekend. To stay sharp, they'll be practicing Tuesday and Wednesday at Cedar Grove Elementary. The big competition takes place on Saturday, May 10th—best of luck to our archers as they aim for a strong finish!

Baseball
The Bruins continue to make great strides! They battled hard against Mt. Washington on Tuesday, finishing in an exciting 8-8 tie. The momentum carried into Thursday night, where they played against Bullitt Lick in the opening round of the postseason tournament leading most of the game only to come up short 6-4 in the end. The team will wrap up their season on Wednesday with a road game at Thomas Nelson at 6:00 PM. Way to go, Bruins!

Boys’ Soccer
It was a breakthrough week for the boys’ soccer team! After hosting Spencer County on Tuesday, they traveled to Thomas Nelson Thursday and secured their first win of the season. The boys will finish out their season on Tuesday, May 6th, with an away game at Marion County. We’re proud of their growth and perseverance!

Girls’ Soccer
The girls’ soccer team had a big moment this week with their second win of the season, also against Thomas Nelson. They'll wrap up the regular season by hosting Marion County on Monday, May 5th. Postseason play begins the following week. Keep it up, ladies!

🥎 Softball
Our softball team continues to grow and shine, celebrating their first win last week against Zoneton! This week, they’ll take on Bullitt Lick in a doubleheader on Tuesday at Bullitt Central, with the first game starting at 6:00 PM. It will also be 8th Grade Night, so come out and help us recognize and celebrate our outstanding student-athletes!

🏃‍♂️ Track & Field
Track and field athletes are hard at work preparing for the County Championship Meet this Saturday, May 10th. Practices are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with Tuesday and Thursday sessions at Bullitt Central. We’re confident they’ll represent BMS with pride and excellence. Good luck to all our runners and field competitors!
