March 4th, 2017

Dear BMS Community,

We have had a great week at BMS! Students and staff together are doing a great deal of excellent teaching and learning.  Math class finds students working through difficult problems and learning to explain the "why" behind "how math works."  In Language Arts classes students are reading through primary source documents from various points in history making sense of the material and finding cause and effect relationships between then and now.  Students are actively engaged in P.E class playing badminton and recently ran their one mile physical fitness test.

BMS students and staff are working with the elementary schools, L.J. and Cedar Grove in the Dollars and Sense program.  Fifth grade students came and worked with our 8th graders as they were assigned "real life" roles and had to make a budget work.  It was a great experience for the 5th graders and the 8th graders! Fifth grade students also took a tour of the school and are beginning to prepare for life as a Bruin!

Please join us in congratulating our students of the month! We are so proud of these students! They demonstrate the Bruin Way every day as well as strive to Be Bold in Kindness, Courage and Excellent Work Ethic.  These students lead by example and we are so glad they are Bernheim Bruins!

THIRD 9 WEEKS GRADING PERIOD ENDS MARCH 10TH.   PLEASE CHECK YOUR STUDENT'S GRADES.

Parent Night -March 13th, 5 pm-7 pm.  Come share the love of reading with your student! PTSA will be serving hot dogs and chips in the Cafe, we are encouraging parents to come eat and read with their students on this evening.  The book fair will be set up in the library for parents to visit.
Teachers will be here in the cafe or book fair from
5 pm- 6 pm, and in their classrooms from 6 pm- 7 pm.  We encourage you to check-in with your students' teachers and visit classrooms to see great student work posted in the classrooms.   We hope to have a great evening connecting with families, and providing opportunities to share in the love of reading together!

PTSA is having their first ever Book-fair, this will begin March 8th and last through March 15th.

The PTSA has a set of NASCAR tickets they would like to give to someone during the book fair in appreciation for supporting the BMS PTSA bookfair.  Each time parents spend $10 or if they donate $10 directly to the book-fair, Ms. Miller will put their name into the mix for the opportunity to be given the tickets.  Please contact Dawn Milller for more information.
PTSA is also sponsoring a "coin war" between grade levels during the book fair. BMS PTSA is hoping to support reading and literacy at BMS so every little bit helps to support their goal of "Growing strong BMS Readers! "

As always, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your family! Please follow us on Facebook, twitter, eNews, BMS News Bytes and check out our school website.  If ever I may be of assistance please contact me at katie.stephens@bullitt.kyschools.us .

Go Bruins!
