April 22-26 News, Information, Students of the Week and More!

Dear Bernheim Community,

We want to thank all of our participants in Career Day. We had over 24 volunteers invest time in BMS students and shared with them what the future could hold for them. Mr. Jesse Bacon, BCPS school superintendent, was here at BMS, however he wasn't alone. We want to thank him and many others including; Jennifer Catlin, James Killen-Magnus, Katie Ford, Christi Bleemel, Nicole Campbell, Jessica Carnes- Mt. Washington Animal Clinic, Tina Lynch, Sarah Waters, Michael Waters, Stephanie Bonnett, Gayle Ryan, Brian Hedges, Sherry's Designer Cookies, Brance Gould and Forest Edge, Lindy Marcum, Stephanie Talbert, Aaron Harp-Magician, CASA, Breanna Hopkins, Morgan Woodrum, K. Wilson, Stephanie McGarry, MUW, David and Paul from the BC Extension Office, and Mrs. Linda Belcher.  Thank you for your dedication to the next generation and to BMS.
BMS FRYSC Ms. Tiffany Jenkins, did a fantastic job organizing the morning welcoming our community into our school.  It was a fantastic morning- THANK YOU THANK YOU to all of you for supporting the learning of and future of BMS students.

We are so excited to share your student's work with you! On May 2 from 5:30-7:00 we are going to have our 2nd Annual Student Showcase.  There will be dinner, an Art Show, music presentations along with students sharing their success with their parent! Students will be working with their Fourth Period Mentor teachers as they share with you their BMS success journey.  Please plan to come, enjoy a meal with your student and spend some time here at BMS to see the great things your student is doing!

With the end of the year upon us we have so much to do and so little time to do it in.  Please pay close attention to the Dates To Remember listed below.  State testing is coming up beginning May 9th, please make every attempt to avoid appointments, between May 9 and May 15.   We know BMS students are going to do fantastic, but we want them to have the best testing environment possible.

Students this week had a great time celebrating the House Competition.  The Grizzlies won the House competition last nine weeks and there is one more House Bash up for grabs! Right now the competition is stiff between the Cubs and the Bears! It's anybody's game! The Bears won the house competition Minute to Win It games this morning, and showed a great deal of House Spirit and School Spirit!
Keep living the Bruin Way Bruin Nation!! We can't wait to see who the 4th nine weeks House Winner will be!

Attendance Matters:
Attendance Matters:
Be Here! Show Up! It matters! Here in Bruin Nation we are instilling in students the importance of having excellent work ethic. Research evidence states that students who are chronically absent fall several grade levels behind causing them to play "catch up" for years.  BMS believes each student can be successful, we strive daily to support each student.  Each day missed is a day a student falls behind. On top of academic success we have fun incentives for attendance; Game Day, Walkabouts , Sit Anywhere Days and more.  Attendance is part of the Work Ethic Certification program and is something the R.O.C. and BAMS program look at to determine admission so, show up, be here, it matters.
