April 27- May 1 News, Updates and Student Celebrations

Dear Bernheim Community,

As the year has progressed one thing has been made clear, BMS has an outstanding school community.  Staffulty, students, parents and the community at large have come together to make the best of a very difficult situation.  We are grateful for each and every one of you.

Monday the BCPS School Board voted to make May 11, 2020 the last instructional day for students.   The last weeks of school are usually filled with a lot of excitement leading up to summer.  This year things are different, but we still want to create some 'last days of school fun' for kids even in our virtual world.  Below is an outline of what we have planned.
  • Next week's assignments will look a little different for students- look for updates and information in their google classrooms.
  • May 8th is National Virtual Field Day- We will have more information in google classrooms and will post information on FB closer to the date.  We hope to have all students participate. It should be fun!
  • 8th grade parents there is an online store for you to purchase items for your 8th grader. Please see 8th grade google classroom.
  • "Summer Send Off"-  We will have a social distanced, safe and healthy reverse parade on May 11th teachers will be there to wave goodbye to students as they drive through the campus.  This is COMPLETELY optional! See details a little further below.
  • 8th Grade Promotion:
8th Grade Virtual Promotion Ceremony will post to Facebook and in Google Classrooms at 10:00 am on May 11th.

Summer Send Off - Monday May 11th

Celebrate with us on Monday, May 11th, 2020! We invite you and your family to our Summer Send Off.  This will be a chance to wave goodbye to teachers and SEE your teachers one last time.  We hope this provides some closure to the school year for all and is fun at the same time.  BMS teachers will be set up outside along the path through AROUND our parking lot area.  Staff will be socially distanced along the marked area.  Our school resource officer, Todd Harper, will be helping direct traffic.

No one will be allowed out of their cars and cars must keep moving through the path.
There will be no stopping. It is simply a drive through experience so than everyone can see each other before summer.

Please note, this is 100% OPTIONAL, you don't have to come but we wanted to make ourselves available for this opportunity TO SEE EACH OTHER!  Please do NOT ask to pick up your students belongings at this time as they will not be available.  We will have a structured, organized and very specific safe and healthy procedures for belonging pick-up later in the week.  (see the TENTATIVE pick up plan below)

MAY 11TH
3:30 PM -6:00 PM
Come when you can..

How will we get our belongings?
FINAL PLAN-

Bernheim Student Belonging
Pick Up/Drop Off Plan
BMS office staff will be helping with dispersal of student belongings. Student's belongings will be organized by last name and grade level.  Please come only during your allotted time on your assigned day.  We will do our best to group siblings together and belongings for both students together, and they will be available for whichever child's pick up time is first.

We ask that only ONE adult attend the Belonging Pick-up/Drop Off with the student.

NO ONE will be allowed out of the car.  Please simply pop the trunk we will put your student's belongings there.  You may also have items to be dropped off to BMS in the trunk, our staff will retrieve them.

******CHROMEBOOKS? What do we do? ******

It has been a challenge trying to get all of the details worked out but we have managed to land on the following plan:
***FINAL UPDATE FOR 8TH GRADERS- YOU WILL KEEP YOUR CHROMEBOOKS OVER THE SUMMER UNLESS YOU ARE NOT RETURNING TO A BCPS HIGH SCHOOL.

6th and 7th grade students will also keep their chromebooks over the summer.

The ONLY chromebooks that WILL be collected on your assigned "Pick-Up/Drop Off" day and time will be from students are:

  • who borrowed a day user or classroom Chromebook. We have a list of those students and will send out an IC reminder to  those families.
  • students who know they are not returning to a BCPS school.

"POP YOUR TRUNK PLEASE"
You may place items to be dropped off in the trunk and we will retrieve them as we put your student's belongings into the trunk.

If you don't have a trunk then roll down the window and we will be as safe as possible in gathering and giving materials.

You may retain your rented band Instruments and practice over the summer, however school instruments must be returned to the school during the students assigned "pick up" time.

At this point we are working to avoid signatures of any type, but please bring your own pen in the event we do require a signature for something.

The KDE guidelines ask that you follow all safe guidelines including wearing masks.

We plan to keep the procedures outside and moving as quickly as possible, due to the tight procedures you may only come at the scheduled time.

Due to Covid 19 you can only pick your households belongings.

Yearbooks?
Yearbook sales are still open however anything purchased after May 1 will be distributed next school year. Those who have ordered a yearbook this year (prior to May 1) those will be passed out with their belongings.  SEE "PICK-UP PLAN" for details.  There will be no onsite purchases at all this year.

The goal is to make the start of the year paperwork a little less overwhelming for families.  ALL students, returning and new to the district students, must complete the online process. BCPS school district website has more information.  This is new for all of us but in the end, once everyone gets acquainted with the process it will be much easier for families.  Please feel free to reach out to Stephanie Dillman and Sandy Veatch for assistance with this process. They can be reached at stephanie.dillman@bullitt.kyschools.us and sandy.veatch@bullitt.kyschools.us respectively.  Our office staff will be more than happy to help with this process please let them know how they may be of assistance.
Resources
Keep in mind there are so many resources out there for our families.  BCPS Food service will be delivering weekly meal bulk packs on TUESDAYS.  Please take advantage of that for your families and check out www.bcpsmeals4me.com .  If you or someone you know needs assistance over the break please let us know.  Please contact Ms. Tiffany Jenkins the BMS FRYSC Coordinator.  tiffany.jenkins@bullitt.kyschools.us
