Last Edition of the 2020-2021 School Year-Info you need to know

Dear Bernheim Community,

Congratulations to the BMS students who were accepted into the Bullitt Advanced Math and Science Center.  (BAMS) We are so proud of BMS students and cannot wait to see what they do in this world!  Congratulations to all the 8th Grade Students on their promotion.  They have made it through a historic event and we know they will do great things in their futures.  Thank you to all the BCA families and Teachers for sticking with it this year and for supporting the learning process for your students.  We look forward to having most of our students "back in the house" next year!

Keep reading regarding upcoming events for next week and things you need to know.  One of those items is, of course, make sure students are in dress code and following the Bruin Way on these last few days. We want the end of the year to be great and for everyone to finish strong!

CELEBRATING THE CLASS OF 2021

Once a Bruin Always a Bruin! Thank you to BCHS for allowing former Bruins to walk the halls of BMS and express gratitude to past teachers while inspiring students to look forward to their future.  BCPS is a learning community that cares for students at each step of the way.  From kindergarten to their senior year, students are encouraged and supported to grow and become difference makers for their community.  Thank you to all the graduates for growing in the "good stuff".  Good Luck, Best Wishes, we know you will do great things.
Congratulations on Retirement
We don't know what we are going to do without Ms. Kathy Harris and Ms. Connie McDaniel.  These two beautiful ladies have served BMS tirelessly over the last two decades between them there is 30+ years of service to our community.  Both of these ladies smile and have a kind word for everyone.  We love them dearly and they will be greatly missed.

Kathy Harris
Connie McDaniel
Ms. Connie is our cafeteria manager as of 2018.  She joined BCPS in 2005 and has worked behind the scenes serving each student for 16 years.  We love her enthusiasm and her cooking! She brought joy to the Bernheim Cafe and we will miss her so very much. We hope she enjoys seeing the world in her retirement and know she will bring positive energy to wherever she goes.

Ms. Kathy Harris has also been with Bernheim Middle School since 2005.  She is a Night Sweeper and always goes over and above the call of duty.  She shares the love for people in all she does.  She works with a smile and always speaks kindness into the world around her.  We will miss her greatly and hope that she will enjoy her gardening and spending time with family.

Follow Us on Facebook
We will be posting pictures and celebrations on Facebook during the next week. Please know this is the last official communication for the school year.  We will start posting news about 2021-2022 in July and we thank you for following BMS Newsbytes and keeping up to date with the happenings at BMS.

SUMMER LEARNING
We have room for approximately 70 students for our morning Math and Reading Summer Program this year.  There are 9 days in June the "camps" will be happening and those students will be notified through IC, phone
calls and USPS letters.  If your student is invited/notified please do make every effort to get them here.  We know 2020-2021 will be a year for the history books and we want to do all we can to support students.  In the event your student does not get a letter or notification of the summer Math and Reading program but you would like your student to attend please call the school at (502)869-4000 and ask for Ms. Tabby.  We can add their name to a waiting list and add them if room becomes available.

There are additional Summer Learning Opportunities in the afternoons.  BCPS has posted the SUMMER UNLIMITED LEARNING opportunities on their website. We have also linked it here.  These are great opportunities for students outside of academic content.  Students who are coming to morning sessions will also be able to attend afternoon sessions! Check here for details!

CHROMEBOOKS
In person 8th grade students turned their Chromebooks in on May 28th.  BMS BCA students may bring their Chromebooks to school from June 4 between 8:00am and 3:00 pm or June 7th - June 10th  from 8:00am-12:00pm.  The old Chromebook must be collected so students can receive a new one in the fall at BCHS.

8th Grade Promotion

Tickets went home with students on 5/28/21, please see below for details. Remember if students are attending promotion they must attend promotion practice on the morning of June 2 from 7:30-9:30 am. This is for all 8th grade students.  If they are riding the bus the bus will pick them up between 6:45 and 7:15 am.  Car riders can be dropped off in the car rider line. Students must be picked up at 9:30am if they are a car rider.  Buses are available only to those who already signed up for them.

The 2020-2021 Yearbooks have been distributed.  There are still a few available please go online to order  (linked) yours if you are interested. BCA students may come through June 4th to pick theirs up from school.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL- JUNE 3
The last day of school is a school day.  We have had several ask if students must attend, the answer is it is a school day.  The last day of school we will be holding the BMS End of Year Rennasiaince Rally celebrating and rewarding students hard work.  If your student is a Gold, Silver or Bronze card recipient there will be extra fun for them throughout the day.  Kona Ice will be available for students who are participating so they may need a little extra money that day.  Students who aren't eligible will be working on missing assignments and catching up before summer. All students will be able to watch and be part of the end of day rally.  Students participating in the rally will be able to wear hats, sunglasses, dress code shorts and t-shirts, sunscreen and of course they need a mask.

BMS BCA  Ren Rally eligible students are invited to the Rennasiaince Rally but must have received notice of invitation and their parent must have completed the google form Permission slip/RSVP that will be sent out on June 1st.  An information letter was sent through Infinite Campus on May 27th.  Students are in no way required to come if they are eligible they are simply invited. BMS BCA teachers will have assignments/activities posted on June 3rd for all students in BCA who are either ineligible or simply don't wish to attend.

YOU MUST REGISTER YOUR CHILD EACH YEAR ONLINE.

BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, favorite this blog and the school website. BMS Class Highlights includes each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class.  The school website has forms, information, calendar updates and district information along with links to individual teacher websites (also linked above) which are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook, Twitter and Remind. We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.
