9/27/21-10/1/21: BMS News, Celebrations and Updates!

Dear Bernheim Community,

It is hard to believe that after next week we have fall break! We are thrilled we have been able to stay in session and keep kids in class as much as possible! Students have been working hard and making gains!

Friday October 1st will be the first Bruin Bash of the year.  Students must be passing all classes and free from major behavior events.  If they are ineligible for the Bruin Bash they will  be in study hall to get caught up on missing work.  We have been reminding students for the last couple of weeks of the celebration.  We hope all students can participate! Kona Ice will be here for participants. ($3 and $5 Icees)

BMS CLASS HIGHLIGHTS

Please follow the link to the BMS Class Highlights. You will find teachers' websites linked along with a brief update of what is going on in class.  Please visit their websites and lesson plan links to see all that is happening.  The number one way to stay on top of your student's progress is through Infinite Camus. We are here to support your student and family in any way we can, please feel free to reach out.

COUNSELOR NEWS

SECOND QUARTER:

Students will get new schedules for the second quarter.  Please be checking infinite campus for grades and updates regularly.

ADVISORY

Students' Advisory period is an important part of their day.  Students work through College and Career studies, Character Education and make connections with their mentor teachers.

As always please email amy.bush@bullitt.kyschools.us with any questions.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Students in need of extra help in any of their content areas may be assigned Academic Support.  (ESS)  Students may also be assigned if they are behind and need to catch up on work for a variety of reasons.  Monday and Wednesday from 3:00-4:30 Academic Support is available. Contact the Academic Support Coordinator, Kimberly Newton, with questions or requests for your student to participate.

Medication

If your student needs to take any kind of medication during the school day, we must have a signed medication form on file in the office and a parent must bring the medication into the school.  For medication such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen, a doctor must sign the form if it will be for more than three days.  For three days or less, a parent signature on the form suffices.  A copy of the physician’s form can be found here for you to print out and take with you to the pediatrician.

YOUTH SERVICES CENTER

We are starting hygiene boxes for students in need. The boxes will be delivered to families monthly, or as needed. Thank you to our community partners and families who have donated items. If you have anything you would like to donate, please drop them off to BMS.

Snap benefits do not cover these items and we would like to help students feel amazing!

TRANSPORTATION

Please have your student at the bus stop at least five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.  We ask for your patience with this as they are in the process of hiring and training new drivers.

Due to COVID, again this year students are NOT allowed to ride home with other students.  If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Veatch.

ATTENDANCE

The start of the 2021-2022 school year has shown many absences.  If your student is absent, other than officially quarantined, call the school and let us know why your student is absent.  When your student returns to school, please be sure to send in either a parent note or a doctor’s note.

Absenteeism is a problem throughout schools.  Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school. Read more...

By state regulations, students are only allowed 6 parent notes per school year, even if they move schools during the school year.  Student attendance is directly related to student achievement.  If you have any questions regarding attendance, please contact Mrs. Veatch or Ms. Harrison at 869-4000.

COVID

If your student tests positive for COVID, contact the school as soon as you have a positive test result and fill out the Student Protocol Form.  Once you have completed this form, a district nurse will be in contact with you to let you know return dates.  Please do this as soon as you know!

BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, favorite this blog and the school website. BMS Class Highlights includes each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class. The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information along with links to individual teacher webpages which are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook and Remind. We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.

Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your student.
