News, Updates and Student Celebrations: September 13-September 17, 2021

Dear Bernheim Community,
Thank you for a great week here in Bruin Nation! It was a short week but students and staffulty alike are rocking it! We have seen so much great learning happening!  We want to take a minute to welcome the new Instructional Coach for BMS.  Ms. Aleshia Edwards
comes to us from Hebron Middle School where she was a Math and Science teacher.  She is in her first week here and we are excited for her to be part of the team.  She will be working directly with teachers, staff  and students helping us grow as learners!

This Wednesday students will be taking the CASE assessment for Reading.  This is important because this data will help BMS know the proper placement and resources your student needs in order to be at grade level.  We use this data in scheduling and to determine the level of additional help your student will need.  Please encourage your students to show excellent work ethic on this assessment and everyday!

Please follow the link to the BMS Class Highlights. You will find teachers' websites linked along with a brief update of what is going on in class.  Please visit their websites and lesson plan links to see all that is happening.  Teachers have linked materials, resources and items they use in class.  The number one way to stay on top of your student's progress is through Infinite Campus (log on page linked) We are here to support your student and family in any way we can, please feel free to reach out.

MID-TERM GRADES ARE POSTED IN INFINITE CAMPUS! Please check your student's grades, talk with your student and let us know who we can help!!

ATTENDANCE

The start of the 2021-2022 school year has shown many absences for numerous students.  We are aware that students are being quarantined and are sick. We appreciate your help and support during this time.  If your student is absent, other than the school letting you know your student has been exposed and quarantined, call the school and let us know why your student is absent.  Student attendance is directly related to student achievement. With Covid it has been a challenge for sure, but every day we can make sure kids are in school is a win!

"Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school. Read more…"

When your student returns to school, please be sure to send in either a parent note or a doctor’s note.  By state regulations, students are only allowed 6 parent notes per school year, even if they move schools during the school year.  If you have any questions regarding attendance, please contact Mrs. Veatch or Ms. Harrison at 869-4000.

COVID

If your student tests positive for COVID, you need to contact the school as soon as you have a positive test result and you must fill out the Student Protocol Form.  Once you have completed this form, a district nurse will be in contact with you to let you know return dates.  Once the district nurses contact the school, we then begin contact tracing for any students that may have been exposed. Please do this as soon as you know!

MASKS WILL CONTINUE TO BE REQUIRED.

BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, favorite this blog and the school website. BMS Class Highlights includes each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class. The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information along with links to individual teacher webpages which are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook and Remind. We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.

Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your student.
