2/13/23-2/16/23 Newsbytes: News, Updates and Celebrations

 Dear Bernheim Community,

Bernheim Middle School has had a busy week for sure! Students have been working hard in all classes.  Math students are learning math in new ways focusing on real world connections.  Science students are working through several hands on and minds on activities.  We continue to celebrate students every day, this Friday students had their Palentines dance and had a great time!

Next Thursday 2/16 will be the Second School Wide Bruin Bash for the year.  Students must be free of any referrals since Feb 9 and MUST have C’s or above.  D’s and F’s will render your student ineligible for this Bruin Bash.  We have been telling students for a couple of weeks we are upping the expectations.   We continue to promote an atmosphere where students Work Hard & Be Kind.   If your student will be attending Bruin Bash, Kona Ice should be available.  If they are ineligible they will be in a study hall working on classwork so their grades can improve.  The goal of course is that 100% of Bruins will be eligible for the Bash.

DOES YOUR STUDENT NEED HELP?

ACADEMIC SUPPORT (after school ESS) Monday and Thursday from 3:00-4:30.  Amanda Korby is coordinating the program for us this year.  Please reach out to her at amanda.korby@bullitt.kyschools to request your student be signed up.  We are going to support students with general help  for all classes and will have a MATH Club after school as well.

As always please email amy.bush@bullitt.kyschools.us with any questions or counseling needs.

WORLD KINDNESS WEEK

Next week is World Kindness Week.  Students are being challenged to do acts of kindness every day.  We have 433 students enrolled at BMS, the challenge is to complete 433 acts of kindness next week.  We met with Student leaders and they are going to encourage and explain the project in their advisory classes on Monday.  There will be a form linked in each house grade level google classroom for students to enter pictures, descriptions, of themself or other Bruins showing random acts of kindness.  Pictures of students doing random acts of kindness in our community will be shared.  Students should only take pictures with permission of those in the photo.

We know our Bruins are good humans and we want to encourage them to look for the good in the world!

EXTRA CURRICULARS

BMS ARCHERY-We had an amazing weekend!!  We participated in two tournaments.  We set a new school all time high score of 3369 at the Bardstown Tournament on Friday with a 1st place showing.

We followed that up on Saturday with a 3350 and another first place win!!  We had several PR’s beat this weekend as well: Trey - 294, Lexi - 291, Mason - 286, Eric - 278, Brooklynn - 277, Mariah - 275, Maddison - 274, Eli L - 274.  The team competes this weekend at BMS.  We are extremely proud of this team!!

Volleyball continues to make strides in getting better with two more games this week.  We have another home game Tuesday Vs. ZMS.  Games start at 5:30 pm

The baseball team will have tryouts Wednesday after school. They will be outside weather permitting.  If anything changes a message will be sent out.

Which House is Winning This week? BMS  has a house system that is based on students' year of graduation.  Each house can earn points based on areas that are linked to the Bruin Way.  Points are earned by the percentage of the house on the honor roll, free from referrals, attendance, school spirit, showing responsibility for yourself and others,  participation in community service, random acts of kindness, and more!

ALL STAR STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Keep Being Amazing Bruin Nation!!!

We do our best to keep you informed! BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, favorite this blog and the school website. BMS Class Highlights includes each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class.  The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information you might need. Individual teacher websites are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.

Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your students.
