12/2/24 BMS Newsbytes: News, Celebrations and Updates

Dear Bernheim Community,

Happy Thanksgiving, BMS families! As we reflect on the many blessings in our lives, we are especially thankful for the incredible students, dedicated staff, and supportive families that make our school community so special. We hope your holiday was filled with joy, love, and plenty of delicious food! We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back for another great week, full of learning, growth, and connection. Thank you for being an essential part of what makes BMS such a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Community Contributor Food Drive

📣 Calling All Bruins! 🐻💙

On Monday, we kicked off our 2nd Annual Community Contributor Food Drive to support the Lebanon Junction Turnaround Center! 🛒✨

Last year, our amazing community donated 1,244 items—let’s beat that this year with a goal of 1,500 items! 💪

📍 How to Donate:
➡️ Send non-perishable food items in with your student
➡️ Drop them off at school between 8 AM and 3 PM

Donations will be accepted now through December 19.

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

Ask your child what they are grateful for on a regular basis.  Expressing gratitude helps to reduce anxiety and improve mental health.

If you have any questions or need counseling support, please feel free to email amy.bush@bullitt.kyschools.us.

ATTENDANCE

A missed school day is a lost opportunity for students to learn. Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. We know students get sick and if they have a fever or are vomiting, we want them to stay home.  We ask that if at all possible, appointments get scheduled outside of school time.  However, if students must miss, we need notes turned in the day they return.  Each child is allowed six parent notes a year.  After six, in order to be an excused absence, they must turn in a doctor's note.  If you have any questions about your child’s attendance, please contact Mrs. Vittitoe at jennifer.vittitoe@bullitt.kyschools.us or 869-4000.

When signing out a student, please remember you must have your picture ID or driver’s license

Archery:  The Archery team hosted their first tournament of the year this past weekend, and they showed no signs of slowing down from last season’s success. The team took 1st place overall, with the boys earning 1st and 3rd place in individual rankings, and the girls dominating with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th place finishes. What an incredible way to kick off the season! Fantastic job, team!

Boys' Basketball:  It was a fast-paced week for the Bruins as they played back-to-back home games. On Monday, they came out strong, sweeping all three games against the Bullitt Lick Bobcats. Tuesday brought a tough battle, and while the team played with heart, they didn’t come away with the win. The Bruins will regroup and return to action next week, traveling to Eastside on Tuesday before hosting Zoneton on Thursday for 8th Grade Night. Be sure to join us for the games starting at 5:30 PM.

Cheer:  Our incredible Cheer Squad made history this weekend, becoming the first competitive team from BMS to earn a bid to Nationals at Disney! With their highest competition score of the season, these talented ladies have proven they’re a force to be reckoned with. Congratulations, Cheer Squad—your hard work and dedication make us all so proud! Catch them in action as they cheer during the final home basketball game of the year next Thursday, where we’ll also celebrate our 8th-grade cheerleaders.

Volleyball:  Volleyball tryouts are here! Here’s the schedule:

  • 8th Grade: Monday, 4:30–6:30 PM
