BMS NEWSBYTES: #1 August 9-August 11th 2023 Welcome Back!

 Dear Bernheim Community,

Welcome to the new school year, we are so excited to see your student this Wednesday.  Your student does not need to bring anything to school for the first day of school.  They won’t have lockers yet and we will have all they need.  6th Grade students are the Cubs and should wear BLUE, 7th Grade students are the Bears and should wear GREEN, 8th grade students are the Grizzlies and should wear BLACK. You can also wear a Bernheim Shirt if you have one. We will have a spirit competition on day one!

Students are usually nervous about the first day of school at BMS. But not to worry, at BMS we work very hard to make the first day of school fun and help students feel safe and secure.  Students will come into school and be directed to either the cafe or the gym, depending on if they are eating breakfast or not.  Teachers will join all students in the gym and we will welcome students to their advisory class.  6th grade students will have extra support and help making the transition.

SEND US YOUR FIRST DAY PHOTOS! We can’t wait to see your photos of your kiddos on the first day of school this year.  Send pictures to jennifer.harrison@bullitt.kyschools.us and we will get them posted to our social media! We are so excited to work with you and serve your family this year!

COMMUNICATION

The district has a new app where all the information about your student’s school is housed, updates and news will come through the BCPS as well.  You will need to download the app and choose your school.  Please be certain that you have marked “text” and “email” in IC and that all your information is up to date!

FIRST DAY FORMS AND SCHOOL FEES

Please complete all first day paperwork and send that to school by Friday August
11th.  Advisory teachers are collecting forms and fees.  Once the forms and fees are collected Ms. Harrison will distribute lockers.  Again, we need all forms and fees taken care of before we can distribute lockers. Thank you for your help.  Fees are $35 Chromebook fee to be paid yearly and the $20 School Fee.  Fees may also be at
myschoolbucks.com.

ATTENDANCE:

Students need to be in their classroom by 8:00 am.  Doors open at 7:40am.  The school day begins at 8:00 am. Please contact Jennifer Vittitoe with attendance questions at jennifer.vittitoe@bullitt.kyschools.us  or (502)869-4000.

TRANSPORTATION

Please keep up with the BCPS Transportation Facebook page (linked) as there has been a great deal of fluidity in the routes.  We have wonderful people driving our students to school, we simply don’t have enough of them.  Announcements and bus changes are posted regularly on their Facebook page, please be patient and kind.

Any same day transportation notes  need to be in the front office by 2:30 pm! The cut off time is crucial to help make sure your students are given the information prior to dismissal.  If you need to make a change to transportation during the day, call the school prior to 2:30 pm and then send in a transportation change note to Ms Jennifer Vittitoe jennifer.vittitoe@bullitt.kyschools.us You must call in to speak with someone and a written note will be required.

Due to overcrowding on some bus routes students will not be permitted to ride home with friends as a rule.

STUDENT HANDBOOK AND CODE OF CONDUCT (linked)

Please make sure your students follow the Bruin Way.  It is a way of life.

BE RESPECTFUL

BE RESPONSIBLE

BE BOLD in Kindness, Courage and Excellent Work Ethic

In the first few days of school we will go over particulars with your students however the goal is to be a community of people who know what it means to work hard and be kind well into adulthood.  Please be sure to read the student handbook and make sure your student has as well.

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

Students' Advisory period is an important part of their day.  Students work through College and Career studies and Character Education connections with their mentor teachers. We are striving to help all students grow in all areas and we are so proud of what they have accomplished.  Be sure to sign all the back to school forms this year regarding mental health, please be sure to sign and return.

As always please email amy.bush@bullitt.kyschools.us with any questions or counseling needs.

BMS CLASS HIGHLIGHTS

Please visit the BMS Class Highlights, teachers will be updating all the class goings on this week! (linked here)  You will find teachers' websites linked along with a brief update of what is going on in class.   Teachers have linked materials, resources and items they use in class.  The number one way to stay on top of your student's progress is through the infinite campus/parent portal. (log on page linked) We are here to support your student and family in any way we can, please feel free to reach out.

CONSTRUCTION

As a reminder we are currently under construction. Students will enter and exit through the front doors. That means our Bus Riders will have a longer walk than in the past to get inside the building. If the weather is cold or rainy jackets will be required. We are doing everything we can to keep the disruption of daily operations to a minimum but we do ask for patience and understanding as we make BMS a state of the art learning center for your students.

Keep Being Amazing Bruin Nation!!!

We do our best to keep you informed! BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, favorite this blog and the school website. BMS Class Highlights includes each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class.  The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information you might need. Individual teacher websites are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  We also have @henryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.

Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your students.
