Welcome Back

Dear BMS Families,

We hope you all are enjoyed your spring break and that you and your children spent wonderful quality time together.

I would be remiss if I didn’t give a very heartfelt thank you to Ms. April Watkins for organizing the 8th grade trip to Washington DC.  Ms. Amy Bush, Ms. Maegan Tepe, Ms. Vicki Wright and Mr. Shawn Webb did a wonderful job teaching our students as we visited our Nation’s Capital not to mention keeping up with them and helping them feel safe and secure while far away from home.

We must give a special thank you to all the parents who went as well, they rode many hours on a bus with 8th graders who either needed to go to the bathroom or were hungry or were singing show tunes.  Thank you all for making this experience meaningful, educational and memorable for BMS students.

We were so proud of the Bruin's maturity and the deep thinking they showed as they visited our country's important sites.  I had the privilege of touring the Holocaust Museum with four of our young men.  The questions they asked and their heartfelt sorrow for the Jewish people and all they experienced was astounding.  I was so proud of all of our BMS Bruins, as were we all.

Our students were deeply moved and changed by their visit to Arlington National Cemetery.  They saw people touched by the loss of loved ones and several funerals were taking place as we walked the hallowed grounds.  We watched the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and when it was over nobody moved.  The students continued to sit and watch the Unknown Soldier be kept closely under guard. As the ceremony ended students had the privilege of witnessing many veterans who were also watching silently sit in deep respect to their fallen friends. One couldn’t help but see the students’ realization of the true cost of their American Experience written all over their faces.  Several of our young men and women wrote in their reflection that their visit to Arlington had changed the way they view things.  They now understand that truly, “freedom is never free.”   Thank you again for allowing us to grow and learn with your student in Washington DC.

Testing/Assessments
As is part of the educational experience we are constantly monitoring student growth. MAP testing will be completed by April 21st and then right around the corner will be KPREP testing.  Please make every effort to have students here each day of testing 5/10-5/17.  We have found students need a little more encouragement this time of year and we are continuously reminding students to give their best effort. We have the best students here at BMS and we want them to excel at every opportunity.

Student Y

The Student Y Club will be sponsoring a food drive through Monday, April 24, 9:00 a.m..  The homeroom that brings in the most non perishable items will win a pizza party.  The homeroom must have at least 100 non perishable items to win the party. All food items will benefit families in Shepherdsville and Lebanon Junction.

Field Trips/Newsletters
We have many fun activities planned for the end of the year and we want all students to be able to participate.  Grades and misbehavior could prevent them from participating. Please help us keep them focused and engaged all the way up to the last day of school.  We are looking forward to the second Renaissance Rally of the school year as well as several field trips and various school activities.  Bernheim Bruins are doing such a great job this year we don’t want anyone to lose momentum here at the end of the year. Keep FOCUSED Bruins!!

Please make sure to read team level newsletters that are available on the school website and emailed out to parents/guardians.

As always please follow us on Facebook and Twitter, BMS News Bytes and eNews.  Continue to check out the school's website for links/forms and teacher websites.
