November 12th-November 16th: Info, Updates, and Celebrations!

Dear BMS Community,

Lori Rawlings,
 Instructional Assistant
Tim Anderson, Teacher

Kegan Davis, Teacher

This Friday BMS students honored our Nation's Veterans.  We want to wish a Happy Veterans Day to all veterans, especially our own. We are so thankful for those who serve and have served.  BMS students did a fantastic job presenting the White Table Ceremony for BMS.  Thank you for sending pictures of your loved ones to add to our presentation.  It was wonderful to see how many connections BMS has to the military. The entire student body was so respectful and reverent during the whole presentation; playing of taps, singing of the National Anthem, video presentation and the Pledge of Allegiance.   Thank you for encouraging your student to be proud of their Nation.

Not only did students do a fantastic job on Friday, students were rocking it all week along.  There are some amazing things going on in Art class.  Students are learning how to take their creative energies and produce beautiful pieces of art.  In careers class students are taking personal inventories and trying to think about "what might be a job that I would love doing every day?"  In Social Studies courses students are thinking at high levels, learning to interact with extremely challenging text and making sense of the world past, present and thinking about implications for the future.  ELA classes are all working on making sense of the text in the world around them.  They are finding claims and evidence in a variety of texts for a variety of purposes.  Ask your students what they are learning in those classes.  You will find they are solving real world problems through their literacy skills.  STEM, Math and Science courses continue to challenge students to engage in the real world phenomena that explain the connections between mathematics and science and the natural world. Students are learning Math and Science are like bread and butter, fish and chips, peanut butter and jelly, they are better together!  Students across the board are learning to think in incredible ways and working hard. Thank you for encouraging your students to work hard every day!

Attendance Matters:
Be Here! Show Up! It matters! Here in Bruin Nation we are instilling in students the importance of having excellent work ethic.  Part of having excellent work ethic is showing up to "work".   Attendance has been hit and miss in Bruin Nation lately.  We know there has been a bug going around so with that, please remind students to wash hands, cough into their sleeve, never eat or drink after one another and get a good night's rest.

Remind students attendance impacts school rewards such as Bruin Bash, Renaissance Rallies, Game Day and end of the year Awards.  The biggest reward is their link to their own success.  Students who aren't at school fall behind and spend days catching up.  Help us, help them by making sure they are here! Thank you for all you do for BMS and your student!
