News Updates, Celebrations and Upcoming Events Aug 31- Sept 4

Dear Bernheim Community,
Thank you for making the first week of Remote Learning an outstanding one.  We have received much positive feedback from teachers, parents and students alike.  BMS has established a schedule where students are following the pattern of a school day.  Google classroom is the learning platform.  Students have "Live Sessions" scheduled throughout the day in an alternating pattern based on the content. Teachers are available to students during their established class periods as outlined in schedule below.  We know this world and Covid have created challenges for everyone, we are continuously reflecting on what is best for students and families.  Please contact your student's teachers with questions or concern and we will do our best to assist. We are hoping students will be back in school sooner than later and are excited to see their enthusiasm.  Students are helping each other out, showing up to Zoom Live lessons and participating.  We spent the first few days getting to know students and helping them get to know each other, the schedule and how the day will work.

We have a Derby theme "Bruinpalooza" to start off the year. Our community has come together around the Derby for years, we are working to create that sense of belonging among our students.  We know right now the world is a very different place than even a year ago.  The sense of connectedness and belonging are going to be crucial as we move forward. So we thank everyone who has participated and including those who came to the Reverse Pegasus Parade, they had the opportunity to chat with staffulty and students could see their BMS staff in person.  Thank you for coming out!

Each student belongs to an Advisory Class and has a mentor teacher.  Students are logging on to their Advisory Class at 8:40 am each day.  Teachers are working with students through programs such as the Harbor, Second Step, Mind-Up, and Naviance.  Mentor teachers, through advisory, are teaching students about the Bruin Way which is part of the fiber of Bernheim Middle School.  Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Show up and Be Bold in Kindness, Courage and Excellent Work Ethic.  Social Emotional Learning, Health and Wellness are being woven into Advisory and the school day.  Mrs. Amy Bush is our guidance counselor and will be helping teachers, parents and students throughout the year.

As always we are always happy to help in any way we can. There are so many ways to keep up with what is going on at BMS.  BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, please favorite this website. BMS Class Highlights is each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class.  The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information along with links to individual teacher websites (also linked above) which are extremely useful to both students and parents.
It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook, Twitter and Remind. We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.
Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your student.
