News, Updates and Student Celebrations Sept 8-Sept 11

Dear Bernheim Community,

With our first Monday behind us we are starting to see students getting settled into their schedule.  Thank you for working with teachers and staff to help make this a good experience for your students.  We know this is hard and back in March we couldn't imagine where we would be now.  You and your kids are absolute rock stars! Thank you for being awesome! If you do need anything at all please do reach out to your student's teachers or any of us for help and support.

What is happening in class this week? Please click on BMS Class Highlights as teachers are updating this weekly, along with their websites and lesson plans to support families! This is a fantastic resource for families!

BCPS is in the process of preparing to administer the first assessment since last January district wide.   Case@Home assessment for BMS and BMS/BCA students will be September 15th and 16th.  We will have students take the Reading assessment on September 15th and the Math assessment on September 16th.  The schedule for those dates will be modified and shared next week.  Your student's advisory teacher and Math and ELA teachers will go over the details.  Being Bold in Excellent Work Ethic is part of the Bruin Way.  Students need to give this assessment their best effort so that we can get an accurate picture of where they are now and what our next steps need be academically. Please see the linked letter from Ms. Adrienne Usher, the assistant superintendent.
Advisory Class begins at 8:40 each day.  Your student has a mentor teacher who checks in on them and is there to support them.  Teachers are working with students through programs such as the Harbor, Second Step, Mind-Up, and Naviance.  Mentor teachers, through advisory, are teaching students about the Bruin Way which is part of the fiber of Bernheim Middle School.  Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Show up and Be Bold in Kindness, Courage and Excellent Work Ethic.  Social Emotional Learning, Health and Wellness are being woven into Advisory and the school day.  Mrs. Amy Bush is our guidance counselor and will be helping teachers, parents and students throughout the year.

***Below is a reminder of the Remote Learning Schedules, (remember class times do not match IC)

As always we are always happy to help in any way we can. There are so many ways to keep up with what is going on at BMS.  BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, please favorite this website. BMS Class Highlights is each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class.  The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information along with links to individual teacher websites (also linked above) which are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook, Twitter and Remind. We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.
Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your student.
#BruinBold #GoBruins!
