January 10- January 14 BMS Newsbytes: News, Updates and Student Celebrations!

 Dear Bernheim Community,

Welcome to 2022, it came in like a blast of cold air! We have utilized the first NTI day of the school year which is good news.  What that means is we don’t have to make up that day.  Friday was a traditional snow day and we will make up that day on February 21,2022.  So again, February 21 is now a school day.

SNOWDAY/NTI

BCPS will let us know when we have situations like this week presented us. They will inform us  if it is a “traditional snow day” or an NTI day (non-traditional instructional).  On NTI days students will follow their normal schedule.  We will have assignments dropped early in the day so students can review to see what they may need help with.  Each class will meet for a short time via google meet through their google classrooms; cameras on, mics off.

Thursday kids did great! Many showed up just like they were supposed to, cameras on, mics off.  Students participated and completed their assignments. We could see there was a little apprehension on some faces, and I don’t blame them.  No one wants to go back to remote learning.  We plan on being in school, live and in person, on Monday as long as mother nature cooperates.  Watch the news and make sure you are signed up for BCPS notifications just in case there is a weather event.

ATTENDANCE

It’s that time of year where there are many more cases of flu, strep and those “it’s just a virus” as well as continued cases of COVID.  Please be sure that if your child is out sick that you send in a parent note or a doctor note to excuse their absence.  Remember that state law only allows six parent notes a year.  If your child is exposed to COVID or has been diagnosed with it, please contact the school office or fill out the student protocol form to let us know.  If your child is put on quarantine the district nurse will contact you with the details of your child’s return to school.  If your child is presenting symptoms of COVID, contact one of our office ladies at the school and they will help direct you regarding whether or not to fill out that form.  They will happily help you complete the form as well.

While it would be wonderful to have Bruins at school each day, they need to be well.   BCPS has a 24 hour fever free guideline that should be followed before sending your student back to school. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact our front office staff.   (502)869-4000

COMMUNICATION

Communication is key within our school community.   Parents have the ability to change their communication preferences through their Infinite Campus Parent Portal accounts.  Please verify your phone number and email address are up to date.  Decide how you want messages from the district and school to come to you; via text, email or voice calls.  Text and email are typically the best options for sending documents. Voice calls are also available however a link can’t be sent via a voice call.   Those that have social media, Facebook is a source for some information as well.  Please know that we send information through Infinite Campus Parent Portal and social media.   The school website includes contact information for staff, teacher websites, lesson plans and much more.  If you are not connected with your student’s Google Classroom, you can be.  Contact your student’s teacher if you are interested in that option.  As always, don’t hesitate to contact us by phone with any questions or concerns you may have.   (502) 869-4000

BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, favorite this blog and the school website. BMS Class Highlights includes each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class. The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information along with links to individual teacher webpages which are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook and Remind. We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.

Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your students.
