BMS Newsbytes; News, Updates Celebrations and more! |October 24- Oct 28, 2022

 Dear Bernheim Community,

We hope everyone has had a great first week back.  Students are already back in the swing! We loved our Red Ribbon Week activities and students did a great job with participation! Next week spirit days are Wednesday College and Career day and Friday Bruin Gear Spirit day! We are looking forward to seeing all students participate!

DOES YOUR STUDENT NEED HELP?

BMS is starting ACADEMIC SUPPORT (after school ESS) this MONDAY.  We will have Academic Support regularly on Monday and Thursday from 3:00-4:30.  Amanda Korby is coordinating the program for us this year.  Please reach out to her at amanda.korby@bullitt.kyschools to request your student be signed up.  We are going to support students with general help  for all classes and will have a MATH Club after school as well.

PTSA- & BMS Community, Thank you!

Thank you to Amanda Mohr from ReMax  and Kyle Turpin from Motto Mortgage for providing a fabulous lunch for our staffulty today! The Zaxby's lunch boxes were delicious.  We appreciate your kindness and generosity so very much!

Our  school community is the best!

Thank you to BMS PTSA and Amanda Mohr for all you do for students, teachers and our parent community!  Please join the BMS PTSA! They are such a huge support to students, staff and the community! Please contact Stephanie Dillman at (502) 869-4000 for any questions about volunteering at BMS.

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

As always please email amy.bush@bullitt.kyschools.us with any questions or counseling needs.

Please look for your students report cards, KSA scores and CASE scores from the fall assessment.  We have much to celebrate and still much to work on.  We are confident we will be able to grow all BMS Students this year!

Student Portfolios are underway! Students began working on a Portfolio they will use to document their progress throughout this year. At the end of the year BMS will host a Student Showcase where students will share these with their parents.

BMS staffulty are committed to student growth.  We are going to continue to work to help students succeed in all areas at BMS.

HOMEWORK

The expectation of BMS is that each student has a book to read and has access to EPIC (books online). Every day each student needs to read for 20 minutes every evening.  The second part of their homework is to strengthen their simple math facts.  A very helpful tool is the website Math Flash Cards at math-drills.com.    We will be sending home helpful resources throughout the year so you can help support student learning.  Please help  manage their time to include reading time and math practice time. We are so proud of the BMS school community and we have the absolute best school community anywhere.

BMS CLASS HIGHLIGHTS

Please  visit the BMS Class Highlights, teachers will be updating all the class goings on this week! (linked here)  You will find teachers' websites linked along with a brief update of what is going on in class.   Teachers have linked materials, resources and items they use in class.  The number one way to stay on top of your student's progress is through the infinite campus/parent portal. Girls Basketball: Congratulations to the Lady Bruins 8th grade team for wrapping up a second undefeated season in a row this week!!  Outstanding job ladies.  The 7th grade Lady Bruins have a tournament game Monday @ MW.  The 8th grade will start their defense of the county championship Thursday night here at BMS! Good luck to both teams this week.

Which House is Winning This week? BMS  has a house system that is based on students' year of graduation.  Each house can earn points based on areas that are linked to the Bruin Way.  Points are earned by the percentage of the house on the honor roll, free from referrals, attendance, school spirit, showing responsibility for yourself and others,  participation in community service, random acts of kindness, and more!

We do our best to keep you informed! BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, favorite this blog and the school website. BMS Class Highlights includes each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class.  The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information you might need. Individual teacher websites are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.

Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your students.
