11/9/22-11/11/22 BMS Newsbytes|News, Updates, Celebrations

 Dear Bernheim Community,

It has been a very good week.  We loved seeing all the school spirit at the district championships for the Lady Bruins.  This week also brought us Halloween and some very cute costumes.  We are so proud of the school spirit here at Bernheim Middle School.  We are more proud of the wonderful students, families, and community that make BMS such a fantastic school.

DANCE, DANCE, DANCE

Please check out the Dates to Remember! We have a FRIENDSGIVING Dance coming up November 18th. The dance will cost $5 per student and is from 3:00-4:30 pm.  Students must be passing all classes and free from Major Behavior Events to participate.  Pick up from the dance will be exactly like the afternoon car riders procedure.

DOES YOUR STUDENT NEED HELP?

BMS is offering ACADEMIC SUPPORT (after school ESS) this MONDAY.  We will have Academic Support regularly on Monday and Thursday from 3:00-4:30.  Amanda Korby is coordinating the program for us this year.  Please reach out to her at amanda.korby@bullitt.kyschools to request your student be signed up.  We are going to support students with general help  for all classes and will have a MATH Club after school as well.

Please contact us and let us know if you would like your student to be part of the Math Club.  Feel free to call the school at 502-869-4000 if you have any questions regarding Academic Support in general or Math Club.

PTSA

Thank you to BMS PTSA and Amanda Mohr for all you do for students, teachers and our parent community! This week our PTSA provided brand new microwaves for students to warm their lunches from home.  The kids were thrilled and we are so grateful!

Please join the BMS PTSA! They are such a huge support to students, staff and the community! Please contact Stephanie Dillman at (502) 869-4000 for any questions about volunteering at BMS.

FREE TOOLS FOR HOME & HOMEWORK

We are going to offer a free kit of Flash Cards for families to work on math facts and vocabulary at home in the “old school” way.  If you are interested in receiving a free kit of flash cards for math facts and vocabulary for your students please complete the form linked here.  We will be sending those home before Christmas break.  It’s free, it’s easy, it’s fun  and it provides some time to work with your child or for them to quiz themselves on the basic facts.  Form Linked Here!

Everyday we tell students to read for 20 minutes each evening AND practice their math facts every night for 10 minutes.  If students don’t get done with their classwork, it may turn into homework, but generally homework time is saved for practicing those two important skills,

Students struggle to manage their time.  Instead of asking your child if they have homework, you can let them know they have at least 30 minutes of homework each evening.  20 minutes of reading and 10 minutes of math.  If they didn’t bring their library book home they do have access to EPIC (online books).  We also have students on a program called IXL that recommends their individual needs in math.  10 minutes of math practice isn’t very much but it will help get all students back on track after have a few ‘wonky’ years due to the pandemic. Lastly, online flashcards are available at  Math Flash Cards at math-drills.com.   We know knowing math facts will help students with more challenging problems students will face as they go through school.

Which House is Winning This week? BMS  has a house system that is based on students' year of graduation.  Each house can earn points based on areas that are linked to the Bruin Way.  Points are earned by the percentage of the house on the honor roll, free from referrals, attendance, school spirit, showing responsibility for yourself and others,  participation in community service, random acts of kindness, and more!

We are so Proud of these students!

Keep Being Amazing Bruin Nation!!!

We do our best to keep you informed! BMS News Bytes is our weekly newsletter, favorite this blog and the school website. BMS Class Highlights includes each teacher's snapshot about what's going on in class.  The school website has all forms, information, calendar updates and district information you might need. Individual teacher websites are extremely useful to both students and parents. It is important that you log into Parent Portal and choose the option to receive email and texts from the school.  Not only can you view your students grades, attendance and other information it is also a great communication tool to keep you connected.  Lastly, please follow us on social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  We also have @hentryclaytime  on Instagram to keep up with the antics of our school therapy dog. As you can see we want to make every effort to stay connected with families.

Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to serve you and your students.
